The Centre offers a range of Undergraduate Work Based Learning Studies qualifications up to Honours degree level. These awards are on the UK National Qualifications Framework, are aligned to the Irish National qualifications framework and the European Credit Transfer Scheme (ECTS) and they can be specific or customised. The  level of award you choose should reflect your level of work experience – and the learning you already have from it.

Undergraduate Programmes and qualifications:

  • Higher Education Certificate
  • Diplomas
  • BA/BSc Ordinary
  • BA/BSc Honours

You can pursue a specific qualification in the area of  Business & Management, Performance Excellence (BPI, Lean, Six Sigma), Project management or Environmental Management with the Centre. Please contact admissions for further details on lisa@icwblp.org

If you would like to pursue a customised award in another area please contact the Centre to discuss.

Admission requirements

To study for an undergraduate Work Based Learning Studies qualification you normally need to be:

  • Aged 25 or above
    • And be able to show evidence of some years work experience, paid or unpaid Work Based Learning Studies programmes suit both career professionals and volunteer workers.

We welcome students with one or more of;

  • Certificated achievements in further or adult education, professional courses and qualifications.
  • Experiential learning gained in the work place.

For an undergraduate qualification you need to demonstrate that you are capable of undertaking self directed project work, and can benefit from the study module Recognition and Accreditation of Learning (RAL).

Flexible study modes
  • Part time and distance learning, E-learning options for some modules
  • Timescales are highly flexible, programmes can be followed at a pace that suits your personal and work needs
  • For a degree normally 4-5 years part time study, but accreditation of prior learning may significantly reduce the timescale by up to 2 1/2 years
  • For a masters normally 2- 3 years part time study, but accreditation of prior learning may significantly reduce the timescale by up to 1 and 1/2 years
  • Estimated weekly study time: 6 -12 hours per week in addition to normal working hours

Study programmes are modular enabling you to create a custom built personal, work based programme.

Each module is measured in 'academic credit' points. For a full qualification (Undergraduate or Postgraduate), you need to amass a specified total amount of academic credit. Click here for details of credit points required for each award.

A big advantage of modular study is its flexible nature. If you have to interrupt your study programme for any reason, such as changing your job your academic credit is 'held for you' until you can restart.

The table below shows the amount and level of credit required for each Work Based Studies award.
